I've never had to wipe my hard drive, in fact I still have all the hard drives I've ever owned, though I guess if I ever felt the need to throw any of them away I'd like to wipe them just in case there's any sensitive information on them.
I mean I have no idea what's on my drives from 10 years ago, it may actually be pretty fun to go through them at some stage.
