Why is it most Bigfoot videos look fake?

CryptozoologyI've been thinking of this ever since I started this blog, why is it most Bigfoot videos look fake? and how would I fake it better?.

This is part one of a two part post, in this part I'll talk about what I think makes a basic fake Bigfoot video up to something genuine, part two will be about how I'd fake it better.

Usually for me what gives a fake away is the costume and obvious attempt to hide that fact. For me the the first thing I look for in any new footage is for constant head dipping, even Batman has a hard time looking through a mask, other things I like to look for are your usual costume traits, loose fitting, gloves and sleeves. When trying to hide the fact it's a costume people seem the make the footage have a long lead up with a brief glimpse of the creature, shot from far away, behind trees or whatever, it's never that clear, well unless it's just some people having loads of fun.

On a slightly smaller scale you do get footage where you can see they actually thought about making the costume look real instead of just slapping on a gorilla suit. They've filled it out so it's not so loose, they made a cool looking mask and even made proportions different than a humans, say longer arms. In the end I feel it comes off looking odd and unnatural, just a little over the top.

Then you have the footage that keeps on keeping on, this is footage that is so inconclusive that you can't tell either way if it's fake or not, but there's a great story behind it and because of this it stays around for a long time getting discussed. Most of the time the subject looks real enough, though the footage is usually blurry, brief though good enough to keep everyone wondering.

And lastly you have footage like the Patterson-Gimlin film, unsurpassed for over 40 years as being the best footage of Bigfoot ever, I feel due to it being just amazing footage, it's still discussed in both camps with passion to this day.

If you're going to fake it make it as daring and as genuine as the Patterson-Gimlin film.

End of Part 1
Stay tuned for part 2, How I'd fake it better. Ew that sounds dirty.

Sir Ed, just plain world famous

We have a lot of Kiwis that are "world famous" in New Zealand, but Sir Edmund Hillary was truely world famous.

Sir Edmund Hillary died yesterday at the age of 88 as most of you probably know, his was a life that most could only dream of, one of the last great adventurers in my mind.
Being a kiwi myself Sir Ed is part of New Zealand's collective psyche, I've always known who he was and what he did and I'm dang proud of it, I'm sure many Kiwis and people from across the globe feel the same way.

You'll be missed.

Identifying Bigfoot Hoaxers

Haven't been able to get in front of the computer for the past few days, works been pretty busy and I'm just to tired to do anything, I'm free tonight and hopefully I find something interesting for y'all.

Anyway over at The Blogsquatcher there's a post about identifying Bigfoot hoaxers which is pretty cool, you could apply the list to just about any other paranormal phenomena and if you watch a lot of youtube videos you'll notice that most of them fall under some of these identifying points. The point that I have noticed also is the "Just plain crazy" point, there's a lot more out there than you may expect and I've found just leaving them alone works best, it's not nice feeling like you've confused someone even more.

Sooke Bigfoot Footage

Not much to say about this one, the description with it says it was filmed while on the way to work winter 2006, Sooke is in Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. The figure before the video freeze frames certainly looks big and burly, but it pauses at a point where you'd expect at least 5 more seconds of footage of the figure.

EDIT: Just found a thread on Bigfootforums where someone has made a stabilized gif animation of the above video, looks to me like someone in their winter outfit doing something in the snow.

Top Five Bigfoot Videos Ever

This is a list of the top 5 Bigfoot videos that haven't been debunked, IMO, most of them have not been proven either way to be genuine or hoaxes though skeptics, believers and researchers all have their own evidence, opinions about them, will we ever know either way at all?

5. The Redwoods Bigfoot Film
Filmed August 28, 1995 in the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park by a film crew from Waterland Productions. Though the video is pretty dark you do get to see a very burly figure and supposedly you get to see it's dong. You can read the Redwoods Video here plus watch the original and enhanced videos as well, much better quality than the youtube version.

4. Manitoba Bigfoot Footage
Filmed April 16, 2005 by Bobby Clarke, on the Nelson River, Manitoba. Maybe this should be number 5 or not on the list? it's not the best footage ever, what I found interesting about the Manitoba Bigfoot story is that Bobby Clarke sold the rights of the video days after filming it, would I do that? probably, unless the evidence was good enough to convince people to go into the mountains with guns, then I'd probably think twice.

3. Memorial Day footage
Filmed in 1996 by Lori and Owen Pate, Chopaka Lake in north central Washington State. I'd have to say very similar to number 4 of this list, a lot clearer and was witnessed by multiple people, but to me doesn't seem very convincing, but what do I know I'm just an arm chair enthusiast. The Memorial Day Footage is on this list because it hasn't been proven either way fake or genuine, like the rest of them.

2. Paul Freeman Bigfoot Footage
Filmed 1994 by Paul Freeman, near Blue Mountains, Oregon. Probably one of the best Bigfoot videos ever, though there is a little controversy surrounding some of Freeman's other evidence. Here is some more footage of what is said to be of a dangling baby Bigfoot.

1. Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, Bigfoot Footage
Filmed 1967 by Roger Patterson and Robert Gimlin, Bluff Creek in Northern California. Yeah you probably guessed this would be number one, in the 40 years since this film was shot I don't think any other video has come close to being as good as the PG film, the clarity of the video, the details of the figure it's still the best out there I think. There are a few other videos that may be a lot better than some of the ones above, maybe not in background story, but in video quality, some of which are already posted here. I have no conclusion, all I have to say is what would you take off of this list and what would you replace it with and why?

New Bigfoot Video from Easterville

Here's another Bigfoot Video from youtube, here's the description that came with it:

"My nephew & his buds seen & captured this Bigfoot on their camera phone...it didn't even notice them approaching cause of the wind...very interesting....Enjoy."

My first impression was of someone in a black hoody and why wasn't the person filming the Sas below the waist.

Anyway the video shows a pretty big stationary figure not far from the person filming. It's really close and if it weren't for the quality of the camera we may have had a better look at it, you could also attribute the length of the clip to it being from a camera phone as well I think.

I can understand the statement as to why they could get so close without being detected by the figure, but why didn't they video the legs? To me the figure bares a striking similarity to what is seen in the Patterson footage then again it looks like my mate in a black hoody.

I think this may be the Easterville
where the video was shot and here's a translation of what is said in the video:

These young men are speaking in cree..."There's someone standing here boy"...(another speaking)"it looks big"...."can you see it boy?"..."it's kinda far away" Comment left by the uploader of the video.

Is it just another youtube hoax?

Corn Creek Bigfoot Video

There's something strangely familiar about this Bigfoot video, I don't want to say why I think that is because I could be wrong.
It is like most other Bigfoot videos, the title says it was shot in Corn Creek. The footage is short and of bad quality, the scale of the subject is pretty confusing, to me it at least, it looks small and also big, I don't know?

Does anyone else have that familiar feeling after watching this video?

Bigfoot videos on Youtube, Most are Fake and I love it

Finding Bigfoot videos on Youtube is really easy, without fail there is usually about 20 new videos related to Bigfoot everyday. The three main categories that they usually fall into are Monster trucks, Grand Theft Auto and Bigfoot/hoaxes.

Sometimes I come across a video that looks real, but because the video is shot from far away, blurry or what ever it's hard to tell either way if it is a man in a suit or something more unexplainable.

The video below was uploaded within the last couple of days and shows a creature walking for a bit and then stopping to hit the ground and then walking off. It is hard to tell what it may be, but I feel it is a man in a suit because after hitting the ground it looks as if it adjusts its head gear.

As off the cuff evidence it could be easily dismissed I feel because it is inconclusive and well the Erie music doesn't help at all. But I have to say it was one of the more interesting recent uploads that I watched.

BiG-FooT Siting

This next video shows a dark figure running through the woods and the person filming seems genuine by way they are talking, but after the figure gets up from falling over it looks to me like someone in a Scream costume.

Bigfoot in My Backyard

Both the videos are recent within the past few days and I can pretty much guaranty that tomorrow there will be a new batch just like them.

I do enjoy watching them and reading the comments some people make, some people get pretty angry about it all, claiming such things as that the video is the down fall of cryptozoology (more or less), I always tell myself it's only youtube and good on em for giving it a go, after watching minutes upon minutes of this kind of footage their actually helping me to expand my knowledge of spotting fakes and when something juicy does come along I'll be there to spot it.

Bigfoot shot from Helicopter in Middle Tennessee

This footage supposedly shows Bigfoot being filmed from a helicopter during a routine flight in Tennessee, the description was very brief. The Bigfoot in the video looked very beefy and burly if not a little to fluffy, the helicopter makes multiple passes at the subject and in between that you get a very good birds eye view of the surrounding area.

You see roads and buildings in the distance, but for the most part the area looks wooded, at points while the subject is in view it looks as if it is a guy in a fur coat and at times it looks like a bear, but it does look biggish.

Not sure what to think.
