UFOs are for Cranks and Weirdos

Stephen Hawking's recent comments on the possibility of life beyond our planet seem to have offended a few people out there, especially these few lines.

"We don't appear to have been visited by aliens," Hawking said, adding that he discounts reports of UFOs. "Why would they only appear to cranks and weirdos?"

It's a fair comment I guess, maybe he's not into reading up on eye witness reports, though just because he said it doesn't make it fact, so why get upset, it's just his opinion, not some mathematically proven theory.

I feel his words in the article are pretty realistic if you take into account our limitations with communicating with the universe, we've traveled bugger all into it, though we can see millions of years into the past, we're really not up to date with what is really going on out there at all. Primitive life near us? maybe, intelligent life near us? maybe not, intelligent life further out there, I'd like to think hell yea.

Hawking also pointed out that "humanity must pursue a long-term effort of space exploration that would span hundreds of years in order to ensure the survival of the species"

Hundreds of years at our current capabilities is going to take us no where fast but I'll stick with the common argument of "look how far we've come in a hundred years, imagine how far we'll be in another hundred."

Maybe we will have broken all our barriers in long distance communication and travel, maybe we will be millions of light years away from earth, so why discount that another civilization out there could have been there and done that, maybe all the good stuff happened millions of years ago.

I don't know, the imagination is a powerful thing, it'll take us far beyond what we already know, I just wish proving it didn't take so dang long.

Just another rant by Rand.

Paranormal Rest

Was gonna go full steam ahead tonight, been a little occupied lately. Working on a few things that hopefully everyone will enjoy.

But until them remember to check out Our Paranormal Boards, moving along quite nicely.

If you've got any photos on flickr you may want to add them to the Scary Creepy Weird group I've got set-up there.

Also if you have a paranormal event you want to promote them check out my Paranormal Promotion post for details.

Well, see y'all in the new dawn.

The Paranormal Ratio

As some of you know I'm more of a video blogger, I started this blog mainly to post ghost videos that I've found in my online travels. The problem is compared to UFOs, Bigfoot and others of the like, ghost footage comes in last in terms of the amount out there.

The top draw are UFO videos, there's so much available online and not just on youtube. You could possibly spend a life time watching it all. There's usually a new hot UFO video appearing online every other day.

The second I'd say are Bigfoot videos, even though most are faked. It seems that at least once a month there's a hot new Bigfoot video to talk about.

Which leaves Ghost footage in third place. Well I'd say there's a lot more photographs than the first two, but footage is hard to come by. One week you could have multiple new videos appearing online and then have a few months of nothing.

Well, I don't know where I was going with this, but it should give you an idea of why I post a lot of UFO videos on this blog, if I didn't I wouldn't know when my next post would be.

This has been a rant by Rand.

Puppy video making people think again?

By now you've probably all heard of or seen the video of the soldier throwing a puppy off a cliff, there's all sorts of discussion around if it's real, I don't know but the video has hit a nerve with a lot of people, I just hope that in our 5 minute culture that it's not easily forgotten.

Since the start of the war I don't think I've seen such outrage from every day people since maybe the Abu Grade photos, the fact that people are dieing each and every day in the Iraq war seems to go unnoticed "it's sad, but what can I do?".

The puppy video seems to have people thinking about what this war is about and what is actually going on there, people are looking at the war from another emotional angle, not just seeing it as the same old war where people kill people, because to me it seems people are oblivious to this war, we've become desensitized, but what this puppy video has done I feel has provided a fresh angle by which to clearly see the horrors of war.

I started a blog a long while ago all about video footage uploaded by soldiers serving in these wars, I only made a few posts but as a result I continue to watch a lot of this type of footage and the most intriguing thing I've found is that they're just like me and my friends in the kitchen at work, when works slow we make jokes, prank each other, do crazy things, but when it's busy we're full on getting work done.

And that's what I've found while watching videos of soldiers serving, they're just a bunch of young people, doing their job, getting work done, but when times are slow it's time to make their own fun.

And that's very similar to what the Vietnam vets I know tell me in their stories, work hard, play hard and playing hard while fighting a war is a lot different than playing hard in the suburbs.

Young people plus boredom doesn't mix well, mix war and a place you don't really want to be into the equation and you've got something not to pretty at all.

Anyway this rants gone on long enough, long time coming I guess.

Poles and Paranormal Media

So hopefully I'm back on top, been pretty sparse on posts around here the last week or so, I've been lurking in the background, touching up my various blogs, figuring out how I can improve and what not, pretty low key, I've been working on updating My Paranormal Media with all my images and art work that I've done for my blogs, just a picture blog really.

The What would you like to see more of on MPL poll has ended and the overwhelming support goes towards Paranormal Videos with 62% of the votes followed by Current Paranormal News with 28%. I'm gonna throw up another pole now which is What topics do you like to see most on MPL, if you'd like to vote the pole is in the right sidebar.

See y'all in my next post.

Bloggers Block of the Living Dead

I've got the meanest bloggers block at the moment, I have so much I want to post about that I end up not posting anything at all. Time to slow down, relax, maybe watch a movie and enjoy the sun by the river tomorrow. This place we are going to is one of the most beautiful places I know of and hopefully I get some good photos to share.

As for a movie, well I've been meaning to download Night of the Living Dead from archive.org for years now. It's public domain and perfectly legal to download and so are many other things on there, it's like a freebie basket full of hidden gems.

Teenage Alien Angst

AlienWhat if Earth were the Alien equivalent of the haunted house across town where the creepy cat lady lived, what if they were nothing more than teenage Aliens with angst and a fancy for causing a ruckus. The signs are there, lets explore.

  • UFOs travel really really fast, so do pimped out cars.
  • UFOs are stylish with a certain amount of bling factor, so are pimped out cars.
  • UFOs crash sometimes, so do boy racers.
  • They must have some connections because the crashes are covered up pretty well, just like boy racers with well off parents.
  • UFOs appear high in the sky, boy racers just high.
  • Aliens seem shy, so do most teenage humans.
  • Nobody knows where aliens come from or what they're doing, same can be said about human teens.
  • They are prone to sporadic bouts of revealing themselves, human teens are prone to spontaneous bouts of showing off.
  • We all know about aliens and probes, teenagers find that funny to.
  • Aliens like to mess with cows, ever heard of cow tipping, it's a popular rural pass time here on Earth.

From the list above we can begin to paint a picture, aliens could have to much time on their hands, with no sense of real purpose apart from the desire to seek out cheap thrills and to live in the moment.

Earth could be that creepy place where the strange creatures live, a place full of possible mischief, without consequences that is only visited every now and then mainly because it's kind of out of the way and off the main circuit. Flying around like your a rally car driver on the perfect road without a care in the world, stopping off to tip some cows (cattle mutilations and you know how humans love to wear dead animals) and maybe even that door knocking at the haunted house leaving a bag of flaming poop on the porch (sleep paralysis, abduction and probes).

In the end leaving earth with tales to tell, a few trophies and bragging rights. But you know they'll be back because some other teenage alien will definitely want to top the other.

Please take the above with a huge grain of salt.

The Mangy Explanation

CryptozoologyFollowing up from my last post "Chupacabras Video" I'd like to talk some about the two most recent cases that have mangy explanations.

I've seen this article circling about quite a lot, "How Monsters are Made" which discusses the latest Jacobs Bigfoot photos and the recent Texas Chupacabras.

What the article discusses is mainly why I hadn't posted about those two cases previously, I wanted to but hey the simplest explanation is usually the best, both looked like sick animals to me and the "Bigfoot" one, well I've looked at those photos heaps and I still can't make out what the hell the animal is doing. From most Bigfoot sighting reports I have read, those photos don't really sit well with a lot of the descriptions, Bigfoot is hairy, and old Chupa, well there's a whole other description for what it may look like.

I just hope that the mangy explanation doesn't become the first call in identifying such evidence, especially with the main stream news coverage that these cases have had, the last conclusion is usually the first in the next story of its type. I feel you have to take on each new case individually and without hard evidence the research will be a lot harder and conclusions will usually result in theories.

Paranormal Whispers

Have you ever noticed how the information for some paranormal type videos circulating around the net degrades, it's like a game of Chinese whispers (P.C version someone?), the info is out there but as the videos fade away and reappear with renewed interest, info gets lost and usually new investigations and discussions ensue.

It would be nice if the originating info traveled with such videos, but that's just not the nature of the net.

Below are a few examples of videos that seem to have sustained interest, though info doesn't travel well with them.

Ghost girl in the corner - Classic and remains popular. I've been meaning to do a follow up post about this video because I know more about it now than when I first posted about it, info definitely doesn't travel well with this one.

Prison Ghost - Also pretty popular, the info should be easily passed on, featured on the show Ghost Hunters.

Gettysburg ghost video - This one travels a lot and always has great discussions, the info is actually very difficult to find though.

Fallen Angel - Very popular and has a possible explanation, haven't delved to much deeper though, discussions revolve around nearly anything under the sun and over it.

Alien Abduction Video - Pops up quite often, I think I need to update that post.

Area 51 Caller - I think the info about this one is pretty easy to find and I feel it's a classic that always deserves new discussion.

UFO falling in the Dessert - Spectacularly UFOish that if you don't already know where it comes from, searching specifically for NASA most likely wouldn't spring to mind.

The above videos are so widely popular that a lot has been written about them, a lot of it noise (like this post maybe).

Below are a few newer videos that I think will go in the same direction as the ones above.

Haiti UFOs - These buggers are still pretty popular and I feel they're staying put for awhile yet.

Unicorn Video - Probably always do the rounds.

Am I contributing to the noise? I certainly hope not lol. I guess it's easy to see how info gets lost when videos remain popular for so long, people write about them in so many different ways that info gets added, left out, changed, forgotten. It's good to see that there is interest though.

Rant to self, keep it Parainteresting

My Paranormal LifeSo it's been a little hard lately to keep things interesting and updated around here and I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's because of work, sometimes I feel like just planting some crops and living off of those, don't get me wrong though I like my job.

So I've been thinking "how can I make this easier on myself", it's already easy and quick but finding something from other sources worth posting about on a daily basis doesn't happen as frequently as I'd like, so I've thought of a few things that I can build up over time and back log.

First off, I've had a couple of people ask me about photoshop and I said to them that I would make some tutorial posts, that was a quite awhile ago and I haven't delivered, turns out writing instructions is a lot of work, though it is enjoyable and it's something I can build up in my spare time.

Secondly I'll be continuing my series of posts about Maori Folklore, most of which will include illustrations, there easy to write, but the drawings take time.

C - Taking more photos, getting more of my own original content on here and helping out others where I can.

There's one thing I'm excited about that I don't want to let slip, but best of all it's easy (the way I like it), easy on the eye and should be useful for anyone interested in the paranormal and will likely warrant a new blog.

This is more a rant to self, just to keep me on track and to keep things interesting around here, I think I make posts like this every 6 months or so lol.

Ghost Video over at Auras

Just a quick post, haven't had much time the past week or so to get deep into blogging and likely wont have much time in the next week also, to much dang work, also sorry for all the SP posts below, I had a dead line that was catching up on me.

So onto a quick shout out, over at Encounters With The Unexplained, Aura has a post about the Hayswood Hospital Ghost Video, pretty neat footage that's gonna get some TV air time.

Creation Stories

Just been doing a little reading on creation stories from various cultures and one thing really sticks out, most of them are all very similar and a lot are older than most of the mainstream beliefs of this day and age, which I find to be less shrouded in "golden turtle" metaphors.

The first major similarities start out with the earth being void of light and/or covered in water and in chaos, the earth and sky need to be separated and usually the gods/people of the sky come fourth and bring light upon the world , create the land and all things. The other story usually involves a golden egg that is split to form the sky, earth and all things, which I feel is kind of the same as the first story.

The second major similarity is that a lot of the human creation stories involve the gods forming people from mud and giving knowledge to them, it just seems to be a major motif throughout and the story is widely used throughout the world.

The third similarity is that of great floods, a lot of the time to wipe out the gods mistakes and to restart building human kind. Probably a great disaster that cycles back to the first similarity.

One last thing, there are plenty of giants throughout many of these creation stories.

I don't know what all this means all I can think of is that something happened many many years ago that has been lost in translation throughout the ages that has stayed with many cultures no matter where they travel.

I've known of these parallels for ages but this is the first time that I have actually done some proper research into confirming that these stories are very similar. My conclusion is that I'm never going to know for sure what our past truly holds, so why worry, but it sure makes for interesting reading.

Here's a wiki that has a lot of brief examples of many creation stories from many cultures.

EDIT: Just after posting this I found a very similar post from Beyond The Blog, they can certainly write better than I.

I am Iron Man... dodododododo

Just watched the trailer for the new Iron Man Movie starring Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark. Man the first half of the trailer was kick ass, kind of reminded me of Lord of War, the second half looked to much like the regular comic book movie thing. Just like Ghost Rider, enjoyed it, but it was crap.

Another trailer I just watched was for a movie named Dragon Wars, I remember seeing screens for this and it feels like ages ago since I did, lol, the effects look the same as back then. Looks interesting though and I do like the CG work, looks kind of stop motion like, old school in the new school styles. Oh and it's got that dude from Roswell in it.

Here's a D-Wars trailer, not the one at the link though, couldn't find an embed for Iron Man.

Young Free and Single

That's the problem with drinking these days, it takes me so dang long to recover, just don't have the motivation to do any posts. I should be back in the swing of things in a couple days, but by that time the weekend will be here again and I'll likely be back on the juice and I'll face the same problem as I am now.

It's a tough life being young, free and single I find I spend most of my time trying not to be any of those three things.

Anyway I've found a bunch of things I want to write about, so hopefully there will be a posting blitz here in the next few days.

I'm drunk now ask me anything

EDIT: I really need to make me a drunk rants blog or something.

Some of you may know that I get drunk quite a bit, well I am now, but not blacked out, so here we go, what did I do tonight? well I outlined a tattoo and watched married with children, a show I hadn't watched in about 10 years.

The Tattoo I outlined was a cover-up job of a home made job, it was a Rose with her children's names throughout.

At my age I should really have a family, a house and I should really be settling down, but at the age that I am I do have a lot of room to improve, I love old rock and right now "Sympathy for the devil" has just come on, probably my favorite song ever.

I do love the Paranormal and everything that is involved, but I am a hard person to get to know, online and in real life.

I'm in this online game to make money, but not all in it for that, at the moment I'm making about $200 or so U.S a week, just drop me a line and I'll help you out if you want to make a little extra on the side, yeeaaaaa "pass the dutchie" is on, that's my other song, even though I don't smoke it.

Anyway, when I am drunk I do let a lot of people in, but when I am sober people do find that I am different, just lead me and I will likely take up the challenge and follow, I am open to anything, all you have to do is ask, be direct with me and it will bring me out more, ask me for a favour and I will likely do it.

None of this blogging tipey toeing, if you ask I'll be there.

Does Cryptomundo like me?

I've been noticing something for awhile with Cryptomundo, every time I post about a Bigfoot video, maybe a day or two later they post about the same video, maybe it's just that I get to the videos quicker or (and I'm hoping this is the case) they keep track of my blog for new videos for them to share, that would be cool.

Here's a few examples of what I mean:

Sinister Sas Footage - Posted here Wednesday, August 22, 2007.
Bigfoot Attack Video? - Posted on Cryptomundo August 24th, 2007.

Sooke Bigfoot Footage - Posted here Tuesday, September 04, 2007.
BC Bigfoot Video? - Posted there September 5th, 2007.

New Bigfoot Video from Easterville - Posted here Tuesday, July 10, 2007.
New Easterville Cree Bigfoot Video - Posted there July 10th, 2007, same day, tells me they probably keep track on their own, dang I so wanted them to be checking out my blog.

Corn Creek Bigfoot Video - Posted here Sunday, July 08, 2007.
Alabama Bigfoot Caught on Video? - Posted there July 9th, 2007.

I don't know, would be cool if they were reading my blog, would be so cool because Cryptomundo is such a cool site, one of my daily reads, probably not the case thought, but what's cool is I wrote cool so many times in this post it must be cool, cool really.

My thoughts on Cloverfield

Been following this Cloverfield thing pretty loosely, I tried to figure it out for awhile but I'm just not that smart or involved.

Anyway AICNs latest post has got a rumor about something, the interesting part is about "the monsters" scales fall off they turn into small monsters, rumored raptor like. Another bit to read is about the end of some trailer where a soldier says "she's been bitten", bloody zombies now.

I sure hope this whole viral campaign is misleading because my thoughts about what the movie may be about are not what I want to watch, but hey at least my thoughts are totally made up.

Here's what I think it's about. So you've got this drink called Slusho, it's made from magical ingredients from the sea, people love to drink it, the monster is from the sea, the monster shows up one day to claim Slusho back, turns out the monster is the mother of the magical ingredients from the sea. Little bits fall off of monster and turn into little monsters that bite people, people get sick, die and spawn little big monster babies, the monster returns to the sea never to be seen again.

Kind of lame, I sure hope that's not it, maybe I need to get a better imagination.

I'm hoping that all this Internet stuff is around to throw every ones expectations out the window, I hope when the movie comes out people will be sitting in the theatre with pre-existing ideas and be totally side winded by what they see.

Just a little rant.

Tonights Lunar Eclipse

NOTE: This post is about the last Eclipse, but tonights one, February 20th 2008, starts at around 8:43 EST.

So I was all set to take some photos and videos of the Lunar Eclipse tonight, was a pretty nice day, not to many clouds in the sky, but as night drew in the weather turned to arse.

It's windy now with a fair bit of cloud cover, I can still see the moon at times but nothing sustained.

I don't know why I can't remember the last eclipse to come my way, I know I've seen one though, I hope I have anyway. Hold up, yea it was a solar eclipse when I was back in school, I think I damaged my eyes and got a bad head ache, maybe that's why I can't remember it.

Anyway, would have been cool to see a blood moon for myself, but I'm sure there will be a bunch of video uploads going up overnight.

To many big ideas, not enough me

For awhile now I've been trying to keep up with the latest paranormal news and writing about here, only trouble is I keep looking but nothing interests me enough to write about it, hence (hope that's a word) not to many paranormal news posts, plus not many other posts. I have a huge backlog of unfinished original posts, but because of incessantly trying to find new news I never get around to finishing any of them.

I also feel I've lost the point of this blog to an extent, needs to be more personal, more me. I have a bad habit though, if something interests me but it's older than a couple months I wont post about it, I gotta get over that, to much blog fuel in my veins I guess.

Just gotta post what I like, not what I think people will like.
